PlayHaven
Learning (not teaching) happens from within, it is a process of exploration, owned by the student. Much like it, the PlayHaven is a space owned by its occupants, empowering discovery for children ages 1-99. The project, inspired by the benefits of play, particularly in the context of play therapy, aims to create a safe space for refugees, where there is no pressure, goal or... shoes. A series of ‘activity’ spaces or rather layers, centered around sand boxes, art and free play, invite guests to behave like children and explore their inner self, in a grand atrium. In times of need, the building converts into a shelter, with temporary air beam supported slabs creating 3 floors to keep the locals safe. This freedom of use of the space is possible thanks to the exoskeletal vierendeel portal frame structure enclosing the original facade.
Play. Community. Learn. Shock.
